The Top Ramen

Last week I heard a bit on the radio about the upcoming Seattle Oyster, Joel and I decided to create a team and recruited Ben to finish off our three person team.  I'm probably in the worst shape of on the team so I'm really going to have to bust my ass over the next four weeks to get ready.  I figured I'd blog my experience over the next month while I prep.  I was running in July and finished a 50+ mile hike through the Cascades at the end of July but since then I've been lifting weights and trying to gain muscle and have gained about 10 pounds.  Last week before I started dieting and adding cardio to my days I weighed in at exactly 270....dang that’s a lot.

Pretty good progress so far, lost a little over 6 pounds in 4 days.  I know the weight loss will slow down but hopefully I can lose at least 30 pounds which will put me at 240 for the race.

As a small side note I attended PAX with The Hale Brother and Dale yesterday, this was my second time at PAX.  Last year it was still at the Meydenbauer center in Bellevue and this year it was moved to the much bigger Washington State Convention Center, on top of that last year I only made it to the less eventful Friday session, this year we went on Saturday....it was awesome.  Next year I'm planning on attending the entire weekend. 

At the end of the day Kevin and I were in a little pizza joint to get a slice of Pizza (for Kevin pizza doesn't meet my current diet requirements.  The line was pretty much around the entire restaurant with game geeks.  After writing in line for about 10 minutes I noticed the guy in front of us put his hand on his friends shoulder.  I'm not sure why I noticed it but it seemed odd, about 10 seconds later I thought the guy was roughhousing a little as he stepped into his friend, he was actually fainting, he fell right in front of Kevin and I, it all happened so fast we didn't have time to react.  The guy hit his head on the tile really hard and ended up bleeding out of his temple.  He didn't really regain consciousness for what seems like 5 minutes or so, he just laid there staring blankly while I held his head and tried talking to him.  Some other people who were in line and his friend sort of took over and we sort of hung around till the paramedics arrived but it was a very weird experience.

Earlier this week Turner Broadcasting/[Adult Swim] dropped an advertising campaign on 10 cities across the US to promote the new Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie.  Which is a good thing since as far as I knew there wasn't a movie coming out, and I tend to follow this crap so it really had no press at all.

Unfortunately it backfired because the city of Boston is retarded.  Actually I don't think it backfired they ended up getting way more press out of it than they probably paid for; they just have to put up with legal hassles from a retarded municipality.

Of course it had a battery and wires you stupid cow, how the hell else are they going to make it light up?  That gives almost every portable electrical device in the world a sinister appearance since they all have batteries and wires, here's a list of items I come in contact on a regular basis that have batteries and wires.

I just wish I'd heard about this before the Seattle PD went around collecting these cool little pieces of art form the city, I'd love to have one in my office.

Working on a possible skate trip for this weekend.  Using local.live.com to plot out the locations of skateparks and campgrounds.

Pretty sweet it gives the option to post directly to my spaces site.

1. This really doesn't affect me too much as I'm well over 17 anyway and I'm well over informed on what games are appropriate for my young children to play.
2. It's totally retarded and an inappropriate rating to give the game.

I'm going to dwell on the second point for a moment  

Take a look at this list of PG and PG-13 movies from Amazon.  A Large number of these have violence with blood, profanity and nudity.  Oblivion has some violence but none with blood, no profanity that I've been able to hear so far, and the nudity requires a 3rd party hack to be applied to the PC version.

I really think this is in responce to the fallout from the GTA hot coffee incident and the esrb making a knee jerk reaction to the release of a patch that shows some nudity.

Based on the definitions at esrb.org the retail game more closley fits the Everyone rating than the Mature rating but I suppose the conservative population gets to drive this policy for now.
